Can acrobat solve my problem? I need to import data from a csv file to an existing multipage pdf fill in form.

I need to import data from a csv file to an existing pdf fill-in-form to accomodate some year-end tax reporting. The problem I have had in the past is that the form is multi page - 8 pages. Pages 1,2,4,6,8 all have the same data and data fields although the form is titled Copy A for IRS, Copy B for Recipient.etc.. The other pages are instruction pages that we'll set to print as backsides.We will also insert a blank backside as page 2 so the finished form will be 9 pages. Is there any new functionality in Acrobat that can accomodate this importing the data into the specific pages within the form, and do this for multiple records?

Forgot to mention: Once you have the file in the correct format, open the PDF in Acrobat and go to Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Import Data... and select your file. That's it.

I've looked and there is no import facility for CVS to PDF form filling.

The only method I can think of and will be kind of long and drawn out.

Save The CVS to an Excel File.

Then convert the forms To a word file. Then Create a Mail Merge and use info from the converted CVS file and set up the fields and Print as form letter and have it print to document. It will create document for each record.

Take those documents and Save as PDF's.

You could pint them separately or combine them into One PDF. And print as one job.

Someone else may come along and offer a better idea.

You can import plain-text data into a PDF, but not in CSV form. It has to be tab-delimited and it has to have the names of the fields in the first row and their values in the second. You can easily convert the file from CSV to tab-delimited text in Excel.

The number of pages in the PDF and the location of the fields do not matter. The import command works on the file as a whole, not on specific pages.

Hi,

Same idea as Phillip, but using InDesign should be easier: placing text boxes to merge data over an imported PDF is child's. And InDesign didn't refry the imported PDF file when re-exporting the merged PDF.

Take a look at this answer I provided a while ago. It explains how to use tab delimited files out of Excel to fill a form:

If the different pages have the same form fields (using the same names on every copy of the page), the information you enter on one page will automatically be copied to all instances of these fields, so you only have to provide the data once.
