when i open a pdf file it opens in notepad instead

I have Adobe Reader XI. When I try to open any pdf, instead of opening in Adobe, it opens in notepad and I can't read it. Any idea why or how I can make it stop doing that?

I think the problem is with file association. Just right click on any pdf file on your machine, go to properties and change the “opens with” property from Notepad to Adobe Acrobat. Let me know if it does not work.


Make sure to set Adobe Reader XI as default viewing application on Win 7 machine.Open Adobe Reader. Go To Preferences, General and Click on "Select Default PDF Handler"
