unsupported color space

I choose Edit Test & Images tool. I right-click on the page's image. I choose edit using Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop CC 2014 launches. I get a message "Cannot complete your request because a color was specified using an unsupported color space.

I just lost an hour of my life searching forums and trying what I found. Used Print Prodution -> Preflight to try and convert to sRGB and tried Grayscale but still got the same message in Photoshop after the conversion. Tried a few other "fixes" thast didn't fix. Please, help.

It's such an unusual file - it's as if the text was overlayed on a template then printed. The overlay is actually editable in Illustrator. In Acrobat XI, if you activate Edit mode, and then open up the Content Navigation pane on the left (paper icon). Next, expand the Text option for the first page. Normally you would see the actual text here but not in this case. If you select on one of the text lines in the Content pane and right-click you can actually edit the lines in Illustrator.

Does the document by chance have spot colors?

You might also get some hint where the problem lies by checking PDF/X1-a compliance, and maybe even convert the document to PDF/X1-a. You would do that using the Preflight tool in Acrobat Pro.

Hope this can help.

If you go to menu Edit (Windows) or Acrobat (Mac) -> Preferences and select "Color Management" category you will be able to verify if the color settings are synchronized or not and you can change the Color Setup for Acrobat.

enter image description here

You can also synchronize Creative Suite for consistent color through Adobe Bridge. To do this, open Adobe Bridge, go to menu Edit -> Color Settings, choose the Color Settings you want and click on Apply:

I went through carefully to try all of the suggestions. Nothing worked.

I don't know if there is spot color since I received this file from a client. Edit -> Preferences -> Color Management in Acrobat indicated that it was Synchronized: Your Creative Suite applications are synchronized using the same color settings for consistent color management.

I launched BRidge, Applied North America General 2. I closed and re-launched Photoshop and Acrobat. Same message when I try to edit the page.

I'd be happy to send you this file. I have tried to create a jpeg of the pages and then re-assemble them but the resulting file goes from the original 40K to 4,884K and I haven't added any form fields yet! Hope you can help here.

What happens if you attempt to extract the individual page, save it, and then edit the image?

Lori Kassuba

I'll give that a try, but it will be later this afternoon. Thanks.

No luck. As you suggested, I extracted the individual pages, re-assembled them in a Binder (file size went from 40K to 126K - very reasonable), saved it, and then tried to edit the image. I still get the same message in Photoshop CC 2014 as the original that started this thread.

Any other thoughts - hopfeully!?

So, next thing to analyze the problem: Open Output preview. Switch to Object inspector and inspect that image. Then tell us what it says.

Max Wyss.

Max Wyss

When I open Output Preview and switch the dropdown to Object Inspector, the box below that dropdown is totally blank.

You have to click on the image(s).

Max Wyss

Got it. Okay. Here is what comes up when I click on one of the images in the Object Inspector:
Filled Path: ImageMask
ColorSpace: DeviceGray
Color Values: = [0.00000]
Image Attributes
size: 3296 x 2544 pixels (0.014 x 0.014)
bits/pixel: 1
resolution: horizontal 237312.000 pixels/in vertical 183168.000 pixel/in
filters: CCIT Group 4 (FAX)
Overprint=False OPM=1 ri=Relative Colorimetric

Did you try Max's suggestion to save the file as PDF/X?

enter image description hereFollow me on All things Acrobat and more blog

Lori Kassuba

Yes. I had tried convert the document to PDF/X1-a. Is that different than converting to PDF/X?
tmsrDD

THERESA STACY-RYAN

After creating the PDF/X file are you able to verify compliance using the Preflight profile?

Lori Kassuba

Before I convert to a PDF/X again, just want to be sure I am choosing the right option in the Preflight window. PDF/X-1a (Coated FOGRA39), PDF/X-1a (Japan...probably not), PDF/X-1a (SWOP). There are also similar choices for /X-3 and /X-4.

Please confirm.

THERESA STACY-RYAN

You can use any one of them. The idea is determine what the issue with the colorspace is.

Lori Kassuba

I went back to my original document, saved it for this conversion, in the Preflight window, chose PDF/X-1a (Coated FOGRA39).

After the conversion, at the top of the Prelifht Results tab, there is a green checkmark. It states: Preflight profile: "Convert to PDF/X-1a (Coated FOGRA39)" did not find any errors or warning. Lower down, it states, No problems found.

If I dig into the Overview of this results dialog, under Output intents, I found ICC output profile:
Coated FOGRA39 (ISO 12647-2:2004)" and under that, Color space of data: "CMYK"

Further down, under Overview, there is Color spaces -> DevicGray color space.

Is this where the conflict lies?

Is it not possible to send you the original file for your inspection?

You could upload to a share location (like Acrobat.com) and send us the URL.

Quite an unusual file - but Acrobat/PS definitely don't like the DeviceGray colorspace. Try printing the file to the Adobe PDF printer. After I did that, I was able to edit the pages in Photoshop.

Lori Kassuba

I tried printing the file to the Adobe PDF printer. After I did that, I was able to edit the pages in Photoshop. However, every piece of the page is editable, not the entire page as a graphic, which makes it impossible to get my work done. In past versions of Acrobat, similar forms from the client would have each full page as a graphic. I could edit it and clean out all the lines and ( ) so that I could then add form fields to the page.

If I make jpegs of each page and reassemble it, the form size goes from about 40K to about 4MB and then I add fields. This is unacceptable to the client. I have tried lowere resolution jpgs, but it doesn't help the file size much and it looks poor.

Any other suggestions here?

I am new to Acrobat XI and need help on this instruction:
... if you activate Edit mode, and then open up the Content Navigation pane on the left (paper icon).

Activate Edit Mode - click on the Tools link to open all those options on the right? If so, I find Content Editing but then I am not finding a Content Navigation choice. I went through all the other right-side options, but no Content Navigation. On the left side of the document, there is a pages icon (opens thumbnails for all of the pages), one for bookmarks, one for attachments, and then one for signatures. I am not seeing a display like your screen capture. Please advise.

THERESA STACY-RYAN

Try right-clicking directly on the very left side of the navigation pane and then selecting Content to bring up this pane.

Oh my gosh. This one WORKED - ish. At least it is editable in a reasonable way now. Not as easy to remove all the lines, etc. in Illustrator as it is in Photoshop (since lines are so close to the text), but YES, it is doable. It seemes to increase the file size, but not significantly. At least this is something I can work with. What a BEAR for all of us, on this one.

I will let you know as I go to clear out the entire file what the resulting file size is and if it was a successful effort.

Thank you!
