undo recognize text

I have run "recognize text" on some files. Is there a way to undo this? (I just love working with lawyers)

If the OCR output is from Searchable Image or Searchable Image Exact then Acrobat Pro can remove it.


For Acrobat X:
Tools > Protection > Remove Hidden Information
In the Remove Hidden Information pane click the "Remove" button.
If the tick is present adjacent to the Hidden Text entry then the OCR output is removed.


For Acrobat 9:
Document > Examine Document
In the Examine Document pane click the "Remove" button.
If the tick is present adjacent to the Hidden Text entry then the OCR output is removed.


For Acrobat 8:
Document > Examine Document
In the Examine Document dialog click the "Remove all checked items" button.
If the tick is present adjacent to the Hidden Text entry then the OCR output is removed.

Hi John,

No, I don't think there is a way to reverse text recoginition (OCR) unless you have not saved the files yet. It's always a good practice to keep original files intact, and save any editing to another file name so you have the original to go back to if needed.

SOLVED!! Super simple workaround I used for Acrobat X Pro.

1) File / Save as / Image / JPEG
2) Close Acrobat
3) Open Acrobat (NOTE: DO NOT "Create PDF"
4) Instead, DRAG all the JPGs created in step 1 into the PDF window
5) Select YES when asked if you want all the images in one file.

I forgot to mention in my post that my method worked but the other suggested method of "Remove Hidden Information" (which was also suggested on several other forums), did not work for me. So rather than waste my time trying to determine WHY that didn't work, I came up with the workaround. Childish, yes. but it will work for you if all you care about is getting the job accomplished and the other method did not work for you either. :-)
