text missing when combining

I have a problem combining files. I have a bunch of pdf files (all similar in nature) that when viewed singularly are perfect. No letters missing; all text is present. However, when I try to combine them I get missing capitals of specific characters as well as some others in lower case--very odd problem that is consistent on which characters it won't translate. I've gone into the PDF printer Preferences > edited the "Standard" Default Setting to embed a bunch of fonts. It seems to work only sporadically (it worked once). There is no problem creating the individual pdf files, only when combing. This seems to be a common problem in Acrobat (regardless of version--I have 8 and XI Pro). Is the issue with the original creation of the files, or is the issue in Acrobat Pro when those files get combined??? What's the definitive solution? Thx.

This is a font problem. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about this after you combine the files. You may be able to fix font problems using the preflight tools before, but this may not work in some cases.

I've been trying to get some sample files to experiment (and hopefully come up with a reliable solution) with for quite some time. Would you be willing to provide me with the two source files that result in the missing characters when merged? You can email them to me (my email address is on my profile page).
