Is the field already protected? If not, are there any restrictions listed on the "Security" page?

Hi Karl,

No there are no restrictions in place, just created a one word pdf unprotected to see if I could place a password on the document, but when I go to File>Properties>Security Tab, the Security Method dropdown is greyed out so that I can not access it.

That's very odd... Can you modify and save the file at all? Can you password protect other files?

If you are on Windows, you may want to repair your Acrobat installation (The Repair function is in Acrobat's Help menu). Unfortunately, this Repair function is not available in the Mac version.

Hi Karl,

I found the problem, the user said they had the pro version, but it was only a trial and it was expired. I installed a full version of acrobat XI Standard and she is good to go now. Sorry.
