The scroll bar at the right of the page.

I am trying to answer your question. I hope this is the right link. I am using Acrobat XI - the free version and when I see an attachment in my email I save it and then open it but no scroll bar at the right. I would like to always have this scroll bar. Can you help please?

Thank you.

Anthony,
.
Thank you for the clearification.
.
Ok, Adobe Reader XI and Windows 7 are harmonious.
Older (pre "X") were not designed for Windows 7.

.
For background:
Acrobat XI (Standard or Pro) you can open a PDF then open this PDF's Document Properties.
In Windows press the control key (Ctrl), hold - and press the "D" key.
In Mac press the command key, hold - and press the "D" key.
.
In the Document Properties dialog that presents itself select the Initial View.
In the "Initial View" you will observe "Page layout" and "Magnification".
You can pick from a number of choices for each.
Do so. Then save, close, reopen the PDF to observe what your choices do.
.
Note that with Acrobat XI Pro there is something called "Actions" which let you manipulate many PDFs in one pass.
.
With that said, you are using Adobe Reader so you cannot configure "Initail View".
In fact you cannot see it as the tab is not presented in a PDF's Document Properties dialog.
.
However with Adobe Reader you can add Page Display icons to the toolbar.
Perhaps this could facilitate doing what Michael pointed out that was helpful.
.
Here's some examples:
--| scrolling pages
--| single page
--| two-up
.
Having these on the toolbar helps you select a page display to your liking.
.
Here is a screen capture of what might be added to your toolbar.

.
Be well...

Do you want the scrollbar to appear in Reader or your email client?

I have received an answer to click on an icon at the top of the page which solves the problem for A document. My more recen question, which I cannot find asked is there a way to make a default opening to ANY file, so that it automatically always opens with the scroll bar.

Forgive this first time (and old person) user of Acrobat Help by not replying on the correct thread.

Please clearify - are you use Adobe Reader XI or the free 30 day trial of Acrobat XI?
Please provide the OS you are using.
If you are using Adobe Reader XI then, perhaps, you are viewing the PDF in protected mode.
But, again, it is not clear -- are you using Adobe Reader XI or Acrobat XI?

Dear David,

I hope I am answering in the correct link.

You asked:

Please provide the OS you are using.
If you are using Adobe Reader XI then, perhaps, you are viewing the PDF in protected mode.
But, again, it is not clear -- are you using Adobe Reader XI or Acrobat XI?

I am using the free Adobe Reader XI, Windows 7 (64 bit - whatever that means) Firefox browser. I don't understand about "viewing it in protected mode". I simply click on the Adobe attachment and download.
Until I recently downloaded the latest Adobe Reader all my Adobe Reader files opned with the scroll bar at the right.

Many thanks for your help.

Anthony
