That is unfortunately how footers from MS Word documents are handled: They are tagged as a footer internally, so when you try to create a new footer or update the footer, Acrobat "knows" that there is an existing footer, but, unlike footers created by Acrobat's Headers & Footers function, the footer cannot be modified. What I do is, I remove the footer that Word placed on the pages, and replace it with one created in Acrobat. this way, I can modify it from that point going forward.
