OCR not able to perform recognition.

I downloaded a text book for my class, but it isn't searchable. I have tried running the OCR to make it searchable, but it tells me

"Acrobat could not perform recognition (OCR) on this page because: This page contains renderable text"

I have tried printing to XPS and converting to PDF and then running the OCR. I tried printing to PDF and then running OCR again. Those didn't work. Am I just out of luck?

This sounds as if there is already text on the document.

A (albeit lame) workaround would be exporting as TIFF, remake the PDF and then run OCR again.

If the text is along the borders, you can also crop the page(s) so that the text gets cropped off. Then run OCR, and uncrop. Note that cropping is non-destructive, which means that everything outside of the borders will remain in the document.

Hope this can help.
