I cannot install Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

First of all, I thought I already had Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, but I can't find it. So I have repeatedly downloaded the installer. Every time I try to install it, however, I get the same message: "Application initialization error." I have Safari OS X 10.11.3. I tried to install using that, same message. I then followed troubleshooting instructions. I tried to install using Chrome; same message. I tried using the link "Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions;" same message. I have tried everything that I have seen online as possible solutions, but nothing has worked.
