How can I reduce the size of toolbar icons?

The toolbar display is oversized and I want to reduce the size of the icons to allow more icons to be displayed.

Click on Edit | Preferences | General, and in the entry "Scale for screen resolution", choose "100%". Confirm, exit Acrobat, start it again, and hopefully it will have improved. The settings are not very helpful, the only options are "Auto-detect", "100%", and "200%". On my screen, having "150%" would be ideal, but that's not an option. "Auto-detect" doesn't help at all. I am using "100%" and I switched on "Touch Mode" in the same menu (right above), which then lets you increase the icon size slightly by clicking on the Touch mode icon.

This is not possible within Acrobat.

The only thing you might be able to do (if you are not on a laptop with maximum screen size already selected) would be increasing the screen size in the monitor settings of your computer.

Because the icons have a fixed size in pixel an increased screen size would allow to display more pixels, and therefore more icons.

OK, there would be one more possibility, but it is something "you would not do at home": snitching the icons from the application, and make them smaller… But then, don't complain if you accidentially have blown up the application…

Hope this can help.

As Max indicated, there is nothing you can do in the application to fix this. Your only option at this point is to report a bug, including a detailed description of your environment and what you are experiencing, and then hope that you are not the only one to experience (and report) this problem and that it bubbles up high enough that Adobe will fix it eventually: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

You might want to make sure that you don't have Touch Mode enabled as this will space out the toolbar icons and make them oversized.

This is an extra Klunky interface. Why they want to fill up the screen with oversized icons is beyond me.

One would think that the PDF content was more inportant than the toolset, which given the typical aspect ratio of monitors should be vertical and out of the way.......

Just build it like Illustrator of photoshop, or at least let me reduce the size of the klunky icons..

This is a complaint!

I just read the accepted answer, and I can provide a bit more information:

The user interface only allows for 100%, 200% and Auto - for other values, it is necessary to dig a bit deeper into the system, and either modify the registry (Windows) or a Plist file (Mac OS). See here for more information:
