How do I connect a scanner to Adobe ProX to use?

Is usb connection required for scanning in Adobe Pro X, or can it utilize tcp/ip? Our Adobe Pro X prints ok to a Ricoh MFP which connected to the pc via tcp/ip, but it does not see the MFP as a scanner. Thanks
