Error Message: "An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact ..."

I created a hi-res PDF from Quark. Then opened it in Acrobat Pro XI to compress the file for email. I have done this plenty of times from InDesign files.

However, when I open the compressed file it gives the error message "An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the pdf document to correct the problem"

I have tried creating a lower res file directly from Quark but this results in loss of image quality.

How do I fix the compression problem ?

This could be the result of a corrupt image in the PDF file. I would try to figure out which page it is (in case of a multi page document), and then try to eliminate one image at a time until the culprit is found.
Once you know what image is causing the problem, you may be able to e.g. to save the image in a different format (e.g. use TIFF instead of JPEG) to see if that makes a difference.

How did you compress the file in Acrobat? You can use the "File>Save as Other>Save as Optimized PDF" and then play around with the image compression settings to see if you can find a setting that does not give you this error.
