Date Format not working

Hi,

I have form with a date field. I want to set the format to dd.mm.yyyy. I do that and nothing shows in the form! It works fine in the example box, but in the form it doesn't show. If I click on the field the date shows up, but not in the format I have set. Even if I choose from the list of formats, the only ones that are actually working have the month set before the day. I am loosing my mind with this, please help!

PS.The date is always correct no matter which format I try.
