All PDF files on computer have been converted to Word files. Can't be opened normally. Help!

Last week it became impossible to open PDF files sent as email attachments. They tried to open as Word files. I was able to somewhat solve the problem by saving to my desktop and then using "Open as: Acrobat X or Acrobat Reader".

Now I discover that all the old PDF files stored on my computer have been mysteriously converted to Word files and have to be opened the same way.

Have I inadvertently messed up a setting or something?

It's not possible that the files were converted to Word documents, just like that. Probably you accidentally associated them with Word, that's all.

Go to Acrobat, Edit - Preferences - General and click the "Select Default PDF Handler" to associate them back with Acrobat.
