Adobe Reader XI sign and fill grayed out

Hello,

I've been trying to unsuccessfully sign a pdf document with a digital signature using Adobe Reader XI:

1. The form I'm trying to sign is here: http://www.mca.gov.in/MCA21/dca/downl...

2. Edit->Protection->Properties shows that filling of form fields and signing is allowed.

3. In Edit->Preferences->Signatures I can see the digital certificate I want to use for signing the document. Under usage options, I have enabled "use for signing"

4. However, even after all this, all fields under the "Work with certificates" option in the Fill and Sign sidebar is grayed out.

5. Clicking on the signature field in the document has no effect. Nothing happens.

Can someone throw some light on this issue?

Thanks,
Ravi

You only need to click on the signature field to add a signature, the feature under "Fill&Sign" is for the case where the document does not have a signature field. You cannot use a certificate based signature when the document has a signature field.

In this document, from what I can see, the signature field is not enabled, I assume that once all the required information is added, that field gets enabled and you should be able to use it. If that's not the case, get in touch with the author or distributor of the form to find out what the exact requirements are for enabling the signature field.

Thank you, Karl. Indeed, clicking on the signature field has no effect unless the "check form" button at the bottom has been clicked and the form validated. That was a surprise for me. After that, clicking on the signature field did its job. Thanks, again.
