Acrobat XI Pro won't send email with 64-bit Outlook 2013

I'm using Acrobat XI Pro version 11.0.3.37, with Outlook 2013 64-bit on Exchange. Operating system is Windows 8 Pro.

When trying to email from Acrobat, I get the error message "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client."

This problem existed in Acrobat X, but it was eventually fixed in updates to that version. But now it appears to be back in Acrobat XI. Anyone know of a workaround until Adobe sees fit to fix it again?

Here is the answer from answers.microsoft.com :

Run Regedit.

1. Create registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook

2. Create String value: Bitness

3. Set the String value for Bitness to: x64

Reboot.

This fixed the problem for me using the configuration described in the question.

however, I am not familiar with this kind of problems so if you tried it, your feedback would be much appreciated.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\15.0 does not contain an outlook folder. it shows the following only:
/clicktorunstore
/common

there is an outlook folder that has:
/accountdelivery
/addins
