quality loss when using optimize scanned pdf

Hello everybody:

I am using a scanner to digitalize documents at high quality (600 dpi), using the scanner software. Afterwards I use the 'Optimize Scanned PDF' function of Adobe Acrobat, mainly to deskew the pages.

The optimized file is about 15 times smaller than the original, but there is a slight loss in quality, even shifting the control bar completely to the high quality side and deactivating all the optimizing tasks, except for the deskew function.

Is there any way to deskew the documents minimizing the qualtiy loss? I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro Extended in case it matters.

The deskew will always cause a quality loss as it needs a lot of interpolation of the image data.
Thereby the image generally is getting more and more unsharp, depending on the level of the neccessary interpolation.

I don't think you can improve the results that much in Acrobat.
But maybe this tutorial has some useful hints for you.

In Acrobat X, there is new functionality of running the filters (deskew in your case) without any other optimizations. You can try it out with trial version.
