Sometimes I just want to use the typewriter function under tools but I am unable to use it as I automaticly am taken to the conversion process.

It sounds like you have Adobe Reader XI, the Typewriter got moved in that version to the SIgn tab, go to Sign>I Need to SIgn>Add Text
Which version of Acrobat or Reader are you using? What do you mean by "taken to the conversion process"? When you select the typewriter tool, nothing else should happen but the tool getting activated.
When I open a PDF document that has been sent to me and want to add information to the dcoument when I click on the tools tab, I am not provided the typewriter option, only the Export PDF for converting the document to a word document or Create PDF, Send Files and Store Files options. I would like to just use the typewriter function with having to convert the document first. Thanks
