Why does Adobe change the url of a hyperlink in Excel?
Hi, I am having a curious problem with the export of an excel file to pdf by using the Adobe Acrobat PDFMaker Office Addin. In this excel file a long list of hyperlinks are included. These hyperlinks do get transferred to the pdf file, but not with the same url anymore!
Scope:
I've created a root directory with a list of subdirectories, in where a number of documents are stored. I've also created a cross reference list in excel, in where hyperlinks are written referring to the various documents. Basically it would be stored like:
W:\projects\project1\documentation\XRS-list.xlsx
W:\projects\project1\documentation\manuals\manual_1.pdf
W:\projects\project1\documentation\manuals\manual_2.pdf
... etc.
(in where W:\ refers to my network drive)
Once created, a typical url in the excel sheet would look like:
file:///\\server\projects\project1\documentation\manuals\manual_1.pdf
But when I use the pdf conversion, the url will be changed to:
C:\Users\Robert\Documents\manuals\manual_1.pdf
and at one of the multiple attempts, it was even altered to:
file:///\\server\projects\project1\purchases\manuals\manual_1.pdf,
after I simultaneously opened an excel file that was stored in the purchases subdirectory.
How is this possible and how can this be avoided or solved?
Notes:
- I have Excel 2010 Pro and Adobe Acrobat XI Pro installed on a pc equipped with a 64bit Win7Pro OS.
- I've checked the url's for its character length and non of them are exceeding the 256 character length (usually 200-250 char., though).
- I've tried clearing cache, closing Explorer and other non-related programs and files, to avoid interference.
- At one point I had it all functioning, after 6 or 7 attempts, including recreating all hyperlinks in the excel sheet (arghh...), but now that I had to add a few links to the Excel file, and trouble started all over again.
What is it that I am missing here?
