Signing Allowed in Acrobat - Not Allowed In Reader

I have a document I imported and created a fillable PDF in Acrobat X. The document security allows signing (digital or pen tool) and it works fine in Acrobat. The same document cannot be signed in Reader X, either by simple pen tool or digital. Permissions show signing and other sets not allowed even though the are allowed in Acrobat. I have tried saving as another document name and type, same results. I have set tighter security on the document and removed it, same results. I am looking for other ideas. Thanks!

In order to allow a document to be digitally signed in Reader, it requires so-called Extended Rights. Normally, Reader does now allow digital signatures to be applied; this is an implementation limitation Adobe imposed on Reader.

I think you can use Acrobat Pro to assign these Extended Rights (but I am not completely sure). If not, you will need Reader Extension Server, a product of the LiveCycle line (hint, get your big purse ready for that).

Hope this can help.

To clarify what Max said, you can Reader-enable with Acrobat Pro and it will include the digital signature usage right, but Acrobat Standard will not.
