That's Highly unusual.
Have you tried Repairing Permission (Disk Utility in the Utilities Directory)

Have you Tried Checking Fonts for a Defective Font or Duplicate Font. Although these steps were written a geared for MS Office they Still work for any Font Problem with any application. Choose either one or the other:

  1. http://word.mvps.org/Mac/fontweeding.html
  2. http://www.officeformachelp.com/office/font-management/

Follow the steps that apply to fixing Fonts. Also I've created this on my Website and May help with Lion (OSX.7.x) or Mountain Lion (OSX.8.x): http://www.phillipmjones.net/Font_Book.html

Quit Acrobat and Remove your Adobe Font Caches Files. Easiest method:

  1. Download Utility FontNuke.
  2. Install Close up all Programs except FontNuke.
  3. Run in administrator Mode
  4. Restart computer when asked.

Open Acrobat then Try a PDF.
