Installation error 1406

I had reader on my laptop for years. All of a sudden it disappeared from my program list and I could not open PDFs. I tried reinstalling it but I either got a message saying that there was a problem with Adobe Air or an error messaging saying "error 1406. Could not write value Adobe Arm to key SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact support personnel. This is my personal computer so I have access. Any ideas on how to rectify this and what might have happened to my Reader?

I've already uninstalled all Adobe programs and reinstalled Flash and Air successfully. Reader is the problem.
