Hyperlinks opening in new windows

I am converting word documents to pdfs using Acrobat 9.0 then uploading them to the web. The hyperlinks in my document work in a browser but they won't open in a new window even though I have set them to do so.

For Acrobat, the web browser is a single-document environment. That means, regular links will not open a new browser window (Acrobat does not have much control access of the browser).

You might try to use http URIs for your links, and give the "new window" command as part of the URI, making the browser open a new window. However, such links won't work properly when viewing the document directly within Acrobat/Reader.

Hope this can help.

Hi Max
Very kind of you to take the time to answer me so quickly.
I feel i should be more specific. My document has been created in Microsoft Word with the Hyperlinks set to open in a New Window. I am then converting to pdf directly from word. Then am uploading my finished pdf to the server.
I then view my pdf from Chrome and IE. All the hyperlinks work but open in the same window. It is essential that the original pdf document remains open whilst the user checks the links. Although they can use the back button on the browser, they may not, thus taking them away from the source file, which is a prospectus.
I am sure I have previously seen this working when i made a document a year or so ago, with every link opening a new window, so I am even more confused as to why it's not working now.

There's a way to tell the browser to open every link in a new window, but it requires converting them to JavaScript code, one by one.

I have developed an application that can do this to multiple files in a matter of seconds. Have a look here for more info about it: Convert all links in a PDF to Open In New Window
