I am able to insert a hyperlink in a pdf document with Adobe Acrobat Pro that works. However, when I open the same document in Adobe Reader, the link will not work. I changed the security setting within Edit/Preferences/Trust Manager to Allow PDF files to access all we sites, but that did not solve the issue.
