Automatically Inserted Bookmarks

When I scan a document, Acrobat automatically inserts bookmarks of Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, etc. for each page scanned. Then I have to delete all of those and insert the few I want. It can be a time-consuming process when a document is 50 pages long. Is there a way to get Acrobat to stop automatically inserting bookmarks?
