Did you purchase the upgrade or did you get the full version? Also, did you have any problems install Acrobat XI? Also, if you purchased the full version of the software make sure to uninstall all previous versions of Acrobat.

Do I need to purchase the full version for it to work? How can I go about this as I have already spent $200 on the upgrade option.

I purchased the upgrade version. I haven't had any problems installing - Download has been fine and Installation is fine. The issue is with Serial number upgrade step. I am unable to select the XI Standard version to validate the serial number and cannot run the program.

I would get a hold of Adobe support on this issue.
